What Does the Bible Say About: Idolatry

Posted on 07 Aug 2022, Pastor: Rochelle Richards

We consider what the Bible says about Idolatry. Turning again to the 10 commandments we hear the command to have no other Gods before Yahweh and to create no idols nor worship idols as though they were God. The core of the commandment is to be rooted first and foremost in God–and not the images we might make of God, or the multitude of other things we worship as though they were God. A more positive statement of the commandment can be found in Deuteronomy 6: 4: “Hear O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your might.” In this sense, rooting ourselves in God is rooting ourselves in the love of God….this love fulfills our lives more than the many temporary things we tend to idolize.

Today’s message is based on Exodus 20:3-6.
