In Luke’s Gospel we hear the story of the Gerasene Demoniac. We don’t focus as much on trying to specifically define what ailed the man, but rather on the unclean Spirit’s ability to fully understand Jesus’ identity and the healing love of God. God is motived by love to become incarnate in Jesus. It is this love that heals the ailing man in our story and bids him to remain in his home (even though he desperately wants to travel with and serve the one who healed him). His is example is a good one for us when we must remain when we’d much rather go–God equips us with what we need to share the story of his love even in these places.
