A New Year, A New Start

At the turn of a new year, many people are focused on making fresh starts. Resolutions are made as people try to make room for things in their life that have been crowded out by busy schedules, obligations, work, etc.—time for taking care of our physical bodies, time for paying more attention to our finances, time for being with family and friends and time for investigating and deepening our spiritual lives.

At SumnerFCC we too are making changes at the beginning of this new year to make time and space for a deepening of our fellowship with each other and our learning about and living out the life of faith.

Starting small

Beginning January 12 our worship hour will move to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Our 10:00 a.m. hour will become a time for small group learning and fellowship. We will have three small group offerings with learning tracts that will cover 8 weeks. We hope to continue these groups after 8 weeks and will provide more information about this in coming weeks. The first three groups will cover the following:

  • Pathways to Prayer:  Exploring and practicing various different forms of prayer, led by Elders Kris Kistler and Kathy Hillig
  • History of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ): An exploration of the denomination to which our church belongs, led by retired disciples pastors Bob Ihler and Mark Richardson.
  • Reading the Bible for Life:  A look at how to approach reading the Bible and making Bible reading an integral part of your life, led by Pastor Rochelle Richards

Coffee and doughnuts will be offered at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall and child care is provided during the small group hour. Children’s Church will continue at the 11:00 a.m. worship hour and a coffee fellowship will follow worship.

As you make a new start this new year, consider joining us for food, fellowship, learning, worship and fun.
