Seeking Lent: On this first Sunday of Lent, we hear the story of Jesus’ Wilderness Wanderings. We ponder what it means to be empty and face temptation. Rather than viewing emptiness as creating a state of vulnerability, we think about emptiness as creating a state of empowerment through which we are able to recognize and repel temptation. Emptiness helps us to recognize the voices we listen to and to discern the medicine from the poison. May we cling to the fasts we choose as we enter this Lenten journey.
