In today’s lesson we hear ominous words from Jesus about repentance and judgement. We spend a little time today talking about the theology of fear and how there is a possibility for faith and faithful response that is not simply motivated by avoidance of a negative. In the parable of the fig tree, we think about the manure…the corrective in life that is needed to help heal all that keeps us from being fruitful, life-giving people. The correctives may be unpleasant or uncomfortable for a time, but will lead us to the wholeness of life God desires for us.
