We often focus on Peter’s failure in this story as a negative: because Peter doubted and had too little faith, he sank in the stormy waters. What unravels for us today is this default perspective of this story. We see and celebrate the tremendous faith is took for Peter to get out of the boat in the first place. If we are going to try anything, we have to expect and even celebrate failure. If we aren’t failing, we aren’t trying. So we summon the courage to believe in ourselves and fix our eyes on Jesus as we step into the unknown.
Today’s message is based on Matthew 14: 22-33.
