In the letter of John to a community experiencing conflict, fragmentation and change, the words to love may sound impossible. Maybe the call to love our sisters and brothers, especially the ones we are at odds with, sounds like an impossible call. But we are reminded that God’s love is bigger than and overarching of all things. This love is eternally present and abiding within our very hearts before we ever know it or respond to it with human action. We can lean on this love and rely on it to help us love, even when its hard.
