On this second Sunday of Advent, we focus on peace and consider what peace means. In Luke’s Gospel, we hear the words of Zechariah at the naming ceremony of his son John, who will prepare and herald the way for Jesus. Repentance is involved in this preparation. Another word for this is reckoning (which is akin to reconciliation). We must reckon with things within and around us in order to find the peace, the shalom of God which is wholeness even when the world feels far from peaceful.
