In Jesus’ third post resurrection appearance in John’s Gospel, Jesus asks Peter three times if Peter loves him. Peter’s affirmative answer is followed with directives: feed my sheep, tend my lambs. This work in reality is hard and risky, only made possible in the long run by rooting every fabric of our being in our love for Christ. We strive to love first which empowers our ability to do Christ’s work in the world.
