We continue our series on Invitation and our exploration of God’s Invitation in the Hebrew Scriptures. Today we hear the story of Hagar and Ishmael and how God’s love and provision extended to them and how a great nation also arose from Ishmael. Through the story, we are reminded of how often we live with an outlook of scarcity–that there isn’t enough to go around for all of us. We consider how God’s provision comes in those places and to those people we expect, and to those people and places we don’t expect. Our God is vast and there is enough of God’s love and care for all.
