Fulfillment

We continue our journey through the Gospel of Luke using Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Preaching and Teaching by Fred Craddock as a guide.

In this passage Jesus proclaims for the audience at the temple: “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

While it announces a beginning of his ministry and fulfillment of a promise, for us there is still unfinished business:

  • The work is not done in your own heart if your heart is consumed with worry, hatred and fear.
  • The work is not done in your own mind if you give more time and credence to every other message but the message of the Gospel.
  • The work is not done if instead of feeding the hungry poor, you blame them for their plight while you live you great excess.
  • The work is not done if you if do not pray for your enemies.
  • The work is not done if you loathe your self instead of seeing yourself as God’s child.

Today’s message is based on Luke 4: 14-21
