As we continue to move deeper into the story of Jesus public ministry, we hear Jesus read the words of Isaiah and proclaim that these words had been fulfilled in/through him. These words of Jesus were offensive to the original audience because they indicated that Jesus was placing himself in the same realm as the great prophet. The words seem offensive to us because they seem to indicate God’s favor for someone other than us: the poor, the imprisoned, the oppressed. We always are growing in our understanding of faith–that it brings comfort to our afflictions and afflicts our comforts that make us complacent.
Today’s message is based on Luke 4:14-21.
