In today’s story Jesus reminds us that we are the salt and light of the world. Salt and light are active descriptions of who Jesus’ followers are and what they are called to do. The story offers a corrective for Jesus’ original followers whose faith had become unbalanced. The story is a reminder to present day followers that our faith needs the balance of both belief and practice. We continually work toward that balance.
