Today is the first Sunday of Advent and it is no accident that we light a candle for hope as we are passing through the threshold of the ending of the old church year and the beginning of the new one. Hope is what holds together all of our endings and beginnings. It is sometimes hard to light a candle of hope in these places, but we dare to do so for hope is here and hope catches us and helps us carry on. 

Today’s message is based on Isaiah 64:1-9 and Psalm 85.
