In this story of Jesus walking on the water in the midst of a storm, we recognize again the need for rest in between the storms that seem to come all too frequently. Through this story we also see Jesus acting in the way of God the Creator as he walks over the water which represents chaos, confusion and forces contrary to God. We also see Peter wanting to join Jesus on the stormy waters. As we learn from Peter, we must always keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and not the storm itself. We also learn that Jesus will always extend a merciful hand to us when we fail to fix our eyes on him and feel overwhelmed by the storms of life.
Today’s message is based on Matthew 14:22-33.
