On this Ascension Sunday we consider the difficulties of goodbyes and what things sustain us as we move through seasons of goodbyes. Jesus’ goodbye also comes with a commissioning: the disciples are to carry on the work he has begun. To help them with their grief and to strengthen them for their work, Jesus promises the gift of another, the Holy Spirit, to guide, guard and direct them on their way. As we walk into our tomorrows, we know that we are are never alone.
