The tables at which we sit all have rules, often unwritten and understood through experience or upbringing. In today’s story, Jesus turns the cultural table rules (through the parable of the wedding feast) upside down. We are reminded that the greatest seat of honor at our tables does not equate to greatness in God’s eyes. Instead, Jesus calls us to humility and to an openness. We remember this as weekly we come to the Communion Table where all are invited and welcomed.
