In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus’ ministry begins in earnest after the arrest of John the Baptist. Jesus calls his followers to repent (to turn around, to walk in new life) and to believe the good news. Christianity as a whole these days seems to contradict a belief of the good news, often presenting it as bad news. A popular online meme right now says: “I am suspicious of people who have a mouth full of Scripture and a heart full of hate.” For God’s power to be made manifest and believed by others, we must first reclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and believe it ourselves.
Today’s message is based on Mark 1:14-20.
