Open My Eyes

Posted on 28 Jun 2015, Pastor: Rochelle Richards

Eye opening experiences often come when we least expect them, and certainly when we have no room, or patience, or time for them.

Today’s scripture tells the story of Saul, a person who was ravaging the church, being struck blind before having his eyes opened to a new way of seeing; a new way of being.

Saul was struck blind, and maybe to have our eyes opened, we need to have them closed to other things:

  • Closed to the idea that we are somehow better and above another human being or the precious world our God created
  • Closed to the idea that different is dangerous
  • Closed to the idea that the way we’ve always done church is the only way to do church
  • Closed to the idea that God can only be for us

Sometimes the only way to open our eyes is to close them to the things that continually, subtly, and slyly take us away for God. And how God wants us to live. And who God wants us to be.
