The message contained within the parable of the bridesmaids and the lamps, is that Jesus is calling us to live life responsibly and abundantly

To accomplish this we much take stock of what we are carrying and lay down unnecessary burdens—shame, “should haves” and “could haves”—that fill so much of our thinking with negativity. To say no to the things that take fuel for our light away from us—busyness, commercialism, consumerism, self-centered thinking and acting, over-consumption of food and other substances that rob us of physical health, over-consumption of media, over-consumption of messages that sow division and discord.
