For your Lenten Journey

The season of Lent begins today (March 5th) and lasts for the the 40 days leading up to Easter (excluding Sundays). During these 40 days Christians practice spiritual disciplines of fasting, praying and alms giving. These disciples of emptying and self denial help us to recognize how much we have and help us to make room for God in our lives that are too often crowded and chaotic.

If you are in our area, we invite you to Sunday morning small groups at 10:00 a.m. (child care is provided). Participating in these groups will help you practice some of these disciplines more intentionally. Our next session of small groups will begin on Sunday, March 16th and conclude on Sunday, April 13th. These groups engage in fellowship and study and the areas of study during this session will include:

  • The History of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) meeting in the Fellowship Hall.
  • Sermon text discussion meeting in the Community Room (this group will look at the sermon text for the day and supporting materials and engage in discussion).
  • Prepare the Way meeting in the Library (this group will be looking at the basics of faith as they prepare for Baptism).

If you are looking for online resources to help you engage in spiritual disciplines during lent, here are some suggestions. Because we are an ecumenical church (meaning that we respect and partner with churches outside our own), these suggestions come from many different churches and hopefully will give you a wide variety of topics and ideas from which to choose.
