The need to belong is a basic human desire—we were made to be together. Unfortunately, the need to draw those hard lines of demarcation also seems to be part of our basic human nature.

So we separate ourselves based on dogma, on the good works we do versus what other people do, on whether we follow what we believe are God’s rules better than others do. What requirements do we place on membership in our circle of believers?

Do the good, but know that God chooses to love what and whom God chooses. Do the good, but know that God can bring into the fold whomever God chooses. Do the good, but know that you will still belong to God when you falter and fail.
