Marking of the Ashes for Ash Wednesday will be available at 7:15 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary.
The season of Lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter) begins on Ash Wednesday during which participants are marked with the sign of the cross on the forehead as these words are said, “remember you are dust and to dust you shall return.” The ashes come from the burned Palm fronds of last year’s Palm Sunday celebration–a reminder that Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem ends in a trial, unjust conviction and execution. Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent is a time of humility and reflection. Many Christians will take up one or all of the disciplines of fasting (from food or any thing or privilege that we enjoy in excess), study and/or prayer and acts of service. It a time of to remember the fragility of our existence to focus on the things that really matter. We hope you’ll join us for this year’s journey.
